A Large Basket

This large silver basket was made in Amsterdam in 1776 by Hermanus Heuvel.
The oval basket has arched sides which are entirely openworked and engraved with trellis work, decorated with rosettes and framed at the top and bottom by a border of openworked ovals connected by balls. The scalloped upper rim curves down at the centre of each long side where a bow with an oval medallion underneath is attached. Around it are moulded laurel garlands suspended from rings. The top rim flows smoothly into the curved handles, composed of a ribbed band with a rocaille ornament in the centre. The basket stands on four rocaille-shaped legs.
